Telecommunication Network Technician

Company Overview

Our Company is a Telecommunications Contractor. We install Fiber to the Home (FTTH) and IoT for smart meters. We are currently looking for hardworking people, who are willing to work in a challenging environment. The experience in the related field is appreciated.

  • Minimum of 2 years or more of fibre optic cabling field experience.
  • Relevant NZQA qualification in Telecommunication or Networking Technology or IT industry.
  • Chorus Certified Fiber Technician Training (Vision Stream/UCG).
  • To be able to use jointing and fault-finding equipment.
  • Knowledge of reading and interpreting Plans to work.
  • The ability to travel to other areas to assist the business as required.
  • An energetic personality and enthusiastic approach to work.
  • Sound knowledge of how the Telecom (Chorus) Network works.
  • Sound Computer skills for record-keeping.
  • Be innovative and team-focused and be able to generate solutions that produce results.
  • Must be a self-starter, work autonomously and work well in a team environment.
  • A verifiable championing of quality workmanship and a right-first-time attitude.
  • Strong health and safety focus.
  • Must have WTC 1 and First Aid Training.
  • STMS L1 (Traffic Control).
  • WTC 3 experience in working at height.
  • White card for UCG projects.
  • Experience in drawing as-built.
  • Should be able to work on Visionstream and UCG projects.
  • Must be well versed and a peoples person for dealing and communicating with various clients and clienteles.

  • Fibre Splicing/Blowing
  • Fibre installation on residential commercial property
  • Fibre maintenance
  • Installing Aerial and underground cables
  • Use of technical equipment
  • Ability to read telecommunication network framing diagrams, plans and terminologies
  • Civil work including trenching, concrete cutting, hauling of cables and reinstatements
  • Modem/router/Wi-Fi installation and configuration
  • Integrating existing legacy wiring
  • Installation of network equipment
  • Capable of using hands and power tools
  • Installation of complete Ribbonet system for UFB world includes jointing, chamber installations, cabinet installation, and Boundary drops
  • Installation of Boundary drops, investigation of existing ducts, faults finding and repairs
  • Blue ribbon hauling and fibre cable hauling
  • Project Technical support to Engineers, Project Managers and Site Supervisors
  • Repair of damaged cables where possible and required
  • Manual physical work for trenching, piloting, chamber installation and any associated manual work as required for projects
  • Installation of all types of ducting and cables from chambers to cabinet etc.
  • Installation of complete cabinets and associated duties
  • All works to be carried out in compliance with Health and Safety, Environment and Traffic Management
  • Quality assurance and as-built forms to be completed as required

  • Work opportunities from small one-man installations through to large complex installations involving a team of technicians
  • You will be involved in copper/fiber network cable projects
  • As our clients introduce blown fiber technology there is an expectation that you would be trained in this technology
  • Base salary plus bonuses depending on your speed, efficiency, and how smart & hard you perform
  • Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa
  • The applicant should be able to travel Out of Auckland on time for the projects in Hamilton

Excavator Operator / HDD Drill Operator

  • Be reliable
  • Hold an RTW and Class 2 licence or national equivalent
  • Minimum 6 months of relevant excavator/truck driving experience
  • Mechanical background knowledge is an added advantage

  • Minimum 1 year operating a drill rig as a driller
  • Minimum Full Class 1 licence (ideally Class 2–5)
  • Drug-free (pre-employment drug screening required)
  • Physically fit (role involves hard physical work)
  • Strong health & safety awareness
  • Mechanically minded
  • Problem solver with strong understanding of the drilling process
  • Able to follow a drilling plan and manage operational timelines
  • Capable of supervising, advising, and teaching crew effectively
  • Proficient in spoken and written English
  • Experience with light motor vehicles, HDD drill, 1.7T excavator

  • Conduct truck and machine pre-start checks
  • Drive and operate all vehicles safely
  • Complete site paperwork
  • Assist with onsite labouring tasks
  • Ensure safe loading and unloading of machinery
  • Participate in all safety procedures (STP)
  • Maintain and clean vehicles
